Village Live no 63 (Text only edition)June /July 2009
Published for the residents of Sevenhampton and Brockhampton,
Gloucestershire.
No worries when you see a fire engine outside the Rhodes Hall on July 14th.
It’s only the Century Club – spending an entertaining afternoon.
Non Spring Chickens all welcome – contact Iris Young (583908) for this
and other meetings.Sponsored Sevenhampton Parish Council You will know that repairs and refurb are needed at the Hall. Quite a bit of fundraising has gone on – the last one being the quiz which raised over £100 - but new effort and ideas are needed. Any events you would like to see? The idea was posited of a nearly new really good (definitely not jumble) clothes sale. Would be fun. Could we manage a Car Boot Sale? If so, where? Maybe a feast at the Hall with us all supplying the goodies and hiring a seat to eat it at. Might even persuade Bill to do his magnificent cheesecake. Have a think – email or ring with ideas and willingness to participate and we’ll pass it on to the Hall Committee for consideration Amongst the various sponsored events recently, Georgina raised over £500 with a wheelchair push. In the Echo, I wrongly said it was for the British Heart Foundation but it was for Cancer Research. Sorry Georgina! Anne Items for the next Issue (August/September) by 20th. July Please. Bill & Anne Jenkin: 820338 email: removed Gassons Lane ClosureAs we went to press a road closure notice for Gassons Lane was received by the Parish Clerk.Dates: 1st to 8th July Reason: Surface Dressing (road too narrow for traffic to pass with plant in road) Search on Again for Affordable Housing PlotThe search is on again to find a suitable patch of land for a small affordable housing development. The Parish Council has been informed that the original plot, discussed at length in 2006, is no longer available and wishes to find suitable alternatives which would be acceptable to the landowner, District Council planners and residents.Affordable housing developments can be on land currently used for agricultural purposes, the housing is available only to those who have connections with the villages by way of family, employment, current or previous residency. If you know of, or own a site yourself, which you think might pass these criteria please contact Parish Councillor Harry Boyd (820327). AllotmentsThe Parish Council is gauging the level of interest there might be in re-opening the allotment site in Brockhampton. The site is about half way up Brockhampton Quarry hill, opposite ‘Hill View’.There would need to be sufficient interest and a fair amount of work involved. If you think you would like to take on an allotment please let the parish clerk know on 820718, email address removed. Sevenhampton FloodingPrevention May Prove Too ExpensiveAt the behest of the Parish Council, District Councillor Robin Hughes has been investigating a solution to the flooding problem which beset Sevenhampton in 2007. It was thought that the flood was caused by the pipe taking the water under the footbridge by the ford being of insufficient width. An increase in the diameter would improve the flow but could increase the risk of flooding further downstream. This would have to be taken into account in the costing of any preventative scheme. Gloucestershire Highways are considering the situation.Next Parish Council Meeting:
Wednesday 15th July, 7.30pm in the Reading Room There will be a short open session before the start of the formal meeting Recent Planning Applications

Brockhampton (Quarry) 09.55 to 10.15 " (Phone Box) 10.20 to 10.35 note. The official timetable from the library service rather quaintly gives the stopping point for the Quarry as “Old Inn”. However, if you came to the village since the early 1960s you might be forgiven for not know where the ‘Stag’ (& Hounds) was. It is the house at the top of the village on the left now called ‘Hunters Rest’. The metal bracket can still be seen where the pub sign once hung.
