Village Live no 60 (Text only edition)

December 2008 / January 2009

Published for the residents of Sevenhampton  and Brockhampton, Gloucestershire.
Sponsored  Sevenhampton Parish Council

The calm before the storm - Christmas drawing threateningly close.
Felt a bit better when a colleague who completed her wrapping months ago, is now ripping at ties & sticky tape as she can’t remember what’s for who.
Others organised for Xmas are Cotswold Council who have yet to make up their minds about when refuse will be collected.  What efficiency!
Xmas & New Year is all about a rugged old gentleman tackling herculean journeys and tasks around the world.  But before Indiana Jones on Jan 7th, Santa is expected to make his usual deliveries!
Old favourites too. Pies, Punch & Carols Dec 17th & Dads & Lads football on Boxing Day - rumours Fabio Capello will be talent spotting yet to be confirmed..
Coffee mornings continue each Thursday at the Hall except Christmas Day & New Year’s Day.  It’s a chance to catch up with news & info from the Village Agent & we may soon get a visit from our new policeman.
May I thank everyone  who watched my brief encounter with Countdown.  It was great fun to do and at least I wasn’t beaten by an 11 year old.  Will find out in December whether Charlie who beat  me goes on to win the series.  He’d better!

Christmas Refuse & Recycling Collections

Cotswold District Council Areas

As this journal went to press no decision had been made on Christmas & New Year waste collections. However click on www.sevenhampton.org/cotswoldwaste or see notice boards for details when they are known (sometime after 2nd. December).
Also, for the first collection after Christmas only, the district council will accept extra non-recyclable landfill waste in black bin bags alongside the grey wheeled bin/beige bin bags on collection day.

Tewkesbury Borough Council Areas

Collections will be as follows:
NB Tuesday 23rd, one day early, household waste.
Wednesday 31st. - recycling etc.

Sevenhampton Parish Council

Sevenhampton Telephone Kiosk

The Sevenhampton telephone box, earmarked for removal by BT, is to be ‘adopted’ by Sevenhampton parish council who will purchase the box from BT for £1.
The connection and payphone equipment will be removed and the council will then be responsible for the maintenance etc of the box.
The council took this decision after a trawl of local opinion showed that there was a considerable wish to retain the kiosk because it was a distinctive feature of that part of the village.

Precept to stay at £5,000

The parish precept for Sevenhampton Parish is to remain at £5,000 for the year 2009/10 (about £30 per year for a band E property).  Last year it was reduced by £250 to this figure.

Pies, Punch & Carols

Wednesday 17th December
7pm for 7.30 start

Come along for an enjoyable evening - singing carols, drinking punch and eating mince pies.
The children from Andoversford Primary School will be singing as usual.
If anyone would like to take part by playing an instrument, singing or reading please get in touch - after many years organising this evening I have exhausted all my sources.
I also need help on the night to sell raffle tickets, take money on the door and serving the punch.
Donations of raffle tickets, prizes and mince pies would be greatly appreciated.

Good Weather Gives Farm Open Day a Boost

Uncharacteristically fine weather encouraged a good attendance at the Manor Farm open day & crank-up on October 19th.  The Cotswold Tractor and Vintage motorcycle clubs also incorporated the event on their road runs.  A total of £525 was raised and split between Alzheimer's, Biblic and Salvation Army charities.
Many thanks for the support and also to Robert & Lynne Jackson for running the show

Over £500 raised for Cobalt Unit

A huge thank you from Cherrie and Carol to all who came to the fundraiser on November 8.
It was a great afternoon and with your help and support we raised £525.00!
