Village Live no 58 (Text only edition)August /September 2008
Published for the residents of Sevenhampton and Brockhampton,
Gloucestershire.
Sponsored Sevenhampton Parish Council Just before going to press we got a copy of the tender specs for the local bus service. The options appear on p.2. The worst option would virtually scrap the services in school holidays - only running one bus a week into Cheltenham on a Saturday. All options are finance dependent. There is no option to retain the current timetable. The new timetable, when announced, will appear on the village website www.sevenhampton.org. Items for the next Issue (August/ September) by 20th. September Please. There is a view that it is a landmark and focal point for that part of the conservation area and that there is a need because of poor mobile phone coverage. The parish council has asked English Heritage that the kiosk, based on 1920s Gilbert Scott design, should be listed. It has also written to Cotswold District Council objecting to the removal. According to the ‘Daily Telegraph’, BT have agreed not to remove any redundant boxes until a scheme which would allow local councils to take them over has been considered.Village SignsThe parish council is to go ahead with a ‘Sevenhampton’ sign between Syreford and the turn to ‘Sevenhampton village’. It is also hoped to refurbish the ‘Brockhampton’ signs on the western approach near Brockhampton Park, and on Bakers Wood Lane. GCC have also agreed to add “unsuitable for heavy goods vehicles” on the fingerpost pointing to Sevenhampton Village.More Signs It has also been suggested that a sign with ‘Brockhampton’ on one side & ‘Sevenhampton’ on the other be placed between Manor Farm and Brockhampton Park. Also that the refurbished ‘Brockhampton’ sign currently near Brockhampton Park be moved to the Winchcombe Road between Cotehay Cottage and Cotehay Farm (actually in Sudeley Parish). If you live on the Winchcombe Road, Park Lane or Whitehall what do you think? Do you think the additional signs will cause extra confusion? Please let the parish council have your views by 15th September. The signs will be away for a few weeks while they are being refurbished From the Luncheon ClubWe especially want to record our thanks to Vanessa & Bob Holland & wish them well in their Cornish home. Thanks too to Bob Chandler for the many many years keeping us solvent. In July, past volunteers, drivers and our annual “band of helpers” joined us for a “Cheese & Wine” farewell. We were pleased to welcome Mrs Hobbs, who founded the group thirty years ago! A lovely surprise too when Carol & Mick Denley walked through the door and so we all enjoyed an evening reminiscing and remembering old friends. Thanks too to all who used to come along to our annual fund-raising, spending money on those wonderful items they didn’t need! Rita Rhone Increased Hall ChargesThe
Rhodes Memorial Hall committee has decided that, from September,
the cost of hiring the village hall should rise. This
is due to spiralling costs of electricity and insurance. The charge for Local Societies and Charities will now be £4 per hour for the Main Hall & £3 for the Reading Room. All other users will pay £8 & £6 respectively. There will be a £4 p.h. fee for the use of the kitchen. All users will be charged for an extra half an hour in addition to the times booked, to allow for setting up and clearing away. All bookings for the hall and hiring of crockery etc should be made through Georgina Oldham, 01242 820423. Bob & Vanessa….would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all dear friends in Brockhampton and Sevenhampton for making their departure for Cornwall so memorable.“Bill and Anne and Georgina deserve a huge thank you for all their hard work in organising our farewell party at the village hall on 28th. June. We are very grateful to them and to all who kindly contributed food and drink, all who came along to wish us well and all who washed up and cleared away afterwards. You all helped to make it a very happy occasion. The generosity of the contributions to our "parting gift" is overwhelming. Georgina has given us a list of 120 names of contributors and we have counted over 90 names on the Huge card We don't know how to express our thanks to you all, but assure you that your generosity will be used to furnish and equip the holiday chalet here so there will be a comfortable holiday home for you to enjoy when visiting us. We look forward to welcoming our old friends in the near future, whether for a quick cuppa or for a week's holiday. We hope to thank individually the many of you who have so kindly sent cards and gifts. If you haven't heard from us yet, please accept our thanks here. We have left behind many kind and generous friends and bring with us many happy memories. Our heartfelt thanks and best wishes to you all” Bob & Vanessa Holland Sevenhampton, Charlton Abbotts & Hawling Produce Show & FeteIs on Saturday 23rd August 2.00pm Exhibition
