Bill’s Grandmother’s
1885 diary.Sponsored Sevenhampton Parish Council Plainly not in Gloucestershire where even the trickle of the River Coln flooded out three houses in Sevenhampton and turned the water splash into rapids. Syreford became a soggy version of Dante’s Inferno and parts of Andoversford became a water park. Even with these events, we were the “lucky” ones - no water or power loss for the bulk of us. Hope repairs go well. On a more cheerful note, the Produce Show is upon us and this time dogs will be taking part which should make it fun though if a dachshund and owner win the best six legs, a recount will be called for. As you know the Show doesn’t run itself. Help is needed. Show Secretary would like you to note what’s wanted. The Pub is running a Beer Festival over the Bank Holiday Weekend.September’s Garden Club Outing (Back page), Cindy Haynes needs to know who is going pretty soon. Walk for the Gloucestershire
Historic Churches Trust takes
place on Sat. September 8th.
The idea is to call
at as many churches as you
can between 10.0am. and
6.0pm in your chosen area.
Sponsorship is based on the number
of churches visited with half
proceeds going to the Trust and half to your chosen church. In the past the parish of Sevenhampton and Charlton Abbotts has been represented, but not recently. I have now received details and sponsorship forms from the County Organiser and it would be lovely if this year we could have some people from here taking part (especially in view of forthcoming essential church repairs). Farm, Chelwood nr Bath
is a large garden created
over the past 15
years from farm land. Its
'prairie' and 'steppe' planting
of grasses and late summer perennials is
a particular feature. There are also waterfalls, two lakes and a
wildflower meadow. Special Plants Nursery and Garden is owned by plantswoman Derry Watkins, who enthused garden club members recently with her talk and slides. The garden, on an exposed steep hillside, was designed and built by her architect husband and contains ponds, a bog garden and gravel garden, all planted with her favourite special plants. and a big thank-you for turning out to the open gardens day on 21st July.
