The great day’s almost here and, give or take a hundred details, all is organised for the Big Late Lunch. Marquees to protect us should bad weather persist. Still bet the band play “Rock Around the Clock” - dreadful number. Remember the rick yard for parking to keep lane clear and leave space for “BlueBadges”.
Don’t forget June 12th’s film. “The Artist”. Tickets from Julia 820629.
A footnote to Sheila’ Bartlett’s loss of husband Jack. Daughter, Sarah, spotted that from upstairs, Jack’s churchyard plot was clear to see - so they can keep an eye on each other in perpetuity.
Radio Winchcombe is now permanently on air - and can be just heard in some parts on 107.1 FM but it’s on line too. They’re letting me twiddle some knobs now and then - reminding me just how rusty I am.
Items for the next Issue (August/ September) by 20th July please. Anne Jenkin: 820338

5.00 p.m. - Buffet Meal
7.00 p.m. to 10 p.m. ‘ish - Music & Dancing
Thank you to everyone who replied to the invitation issued in December, the list is now closed but the response has been fantastic.
Don’t forget that all parishioners not actually dining are welcome to join the party when the band starts playing at 7.00 p.m., so do come along and enjoy the music.

Charges - There is no charge for any participants who are on the Sevenhampton electoral roll. This event is being funded by the Parish Council and the Produce Show - community funding for the community. However there will be a charge of £7.50 per person for non-parishioners taking the meal, payable in advance.
Hawling - Unfortunately, because Sevenhampton Parish Council cannot under law use its funds for the benefit of people from outside the parish, the £7.50 charge will also apply to diners attending from Hawling. Cheques only please made out to ‘Sevenhampton Parish Council’ and delivered to the Parish Clerk by Sunday 27th May please at The Old Shop, Brockhampton, GL54 5XG (opposite the turning to the Craven Arms).
Local Charity Food Collection – could we ask that you bring along a can of tinned food to help those less fortunate than ourselves? There will be a collection point on arrival and all the tins will be given to the ‘One Stop Shop’ in Cheltenham, also supported by our local churches. Many thanks.
Your food tickets - will be issued on arrival.
New Venue - thanks to a very generous gesture by Malcolm and Mo Bell our Big Late Lunch will now be held under marquees in the orchard at East Lodge (next to Rhodes Village Hall) For those of you driving, parking will be available in the Rickyard.
New Menu - a delicious cold buffet selection with a variety of salads, and of course puddings to follow
And the Drinks – Soft drinks - fruit juice, bottled water and lemonade will be available at no cost. Pimms will be available to buy at a very reasonable price in the drinks marquee, as will Otter and Rare Breeds draught beer.
Bring your own - if wine or fizz are more to your taste, please bring whatever you want for the evening. Please note there is no facility to purchase wine so bring your quota for the evening! Plastic tumblers will be provided, but please bring your own glasses if preferred.
Live Music – ‘Backbeat 56’ will be playing from 7.00 p.m. and the dance floor will be waiting…
Luxury mobile toilets have been hired for the event. If you are disabled and will need assistance getting about the venue or to and from the toilets please let Carol Cann (see below) know in advance so that arrangements can be made.
N.B. - If for any reason you replied to the invitation but now find you are unable to attend, please let us know a.s.a.p. as there is a waiting list.

Thanks for the Tea Party

Di Brown wants to let you know what a pleasant time was had at the afternoon tea party in April. “...as usual the sandwiches and small cakes were delicious, and served with plenty of pots of tea, Georgina, Ray, Anne and Lynn did sterling service with the Thamyse String Quartet providing splendid entertainment”. Thanks go to Georgina, the “band” and all the helpers.

Can you Help Find any Missing Webbs?

Can you help with any information about the Webb family who lived in Brook Cottage, Sevenhampton (by the watersplash) and ran a small shop there in the last century? Lynda Raynor from Wallingford is trying to build her family tree and would like any information about the family. Particularly she is interested in two people who appear in the record of graves in Sevenhampton Churchyard compiled by the W.I. These are Ann Elizabeth Webb buried in 1948 aged 88 and Alice Webb buried in 1969 aged 86.
Lynda would also like to hear any tales or anecdotes about the family which you may have heard.
Minnie Webb ran the shop after her parents died but was she on her own? and when did the shop close?
If you can help please contact her,

Century Club

On April 10th 21 Members and friends entertained themselves with their choice of Pam Ayres' 'pomes', unsung family poetry, and literary gems; finding their voice in the gentle receptive aura of the Rhodes Hall.
The usual excellent teatime of sandwiches, home made cakes and several cups of tea was most welcome, and a further session of readings was planned.
On May 8th at 3pm our local historian David O'Connor continued his series of Talks with pictures, this one called Wit-nesses to History.
