The
central theme running through this story is the Life of the Church
from
the Deserted Village of Sennington with its Chapel, through the
building of the Church in Sevenhampton which became central to the life
and growth of the population. The two Manor Houses with manor lands and
their ever changing ownerships. How the whole area grew from scrubland
with its simple primitive homesteads, to the more complicated area of
the two villages, Sevenhampton and Brockhampton. Cultivated by
successive generations, mainly farming communities, who have shaped the
Parish into the one we know today.
Ros
Stewart ,
who sadly died in February 2008, was a resident of Sevenhampton Parish
for 39 years and was associated with the area from childhood.
As
a
member of the Church, Women's Institute and the Parish Council for many
years she developed an interest in local history. After
classes at the
Gloucester Record Office and much research which she undertook with
her husband Ian, she gave a number of lectures to local audiences.
Ros
was involved in many local
activities including a churchyard W.I. team survey of Sevenhampton
Churchyard 1986 (now held by
Gloucester Record Office and also at the church).
This
survey was one of the subjects of a number of exhibitions held
at the Rhodes Memorial Hall the others being "100 Years of
Parish Council" in 1994 and "Sevenhampton's
War" for the 50th Anniversary of V.E. and V.J. days.
Lastly
her most ambitious undertaking - "2000 Years of Sevenhampton's History"
was visited by a large number of people, many of whom requested that it
should be put into a book.
