Minutes of the Annual Parish Meeting
Held in Rhodes Memorial Hall Brockhampton
on Wednesday 30 March 2005
- The Minutes of the annual parish meeting 2004 were read approved and signed.
- The Chairman then welcomed everybody and reported on the progress
of the past projects carried out during the year. The bus shelter had been completed and was a welcome addition to the village amenities, particularly for the schoolchildren. The speed limit signs were shortly to be erected, hopefully. The Parish Council had considered approximately 15 planning applications during the year. The possibility of laying power cables underground had been investigated but had proved to be very expensive and therefore out of reach of parish purse. Maintenance of the public areas had been successfully carried out and a further area of grass cutting had been added to the 2005 tender. A bus passing place
was being investigated and would be financed by the parish council and
in part, hopefully, by a grant. Volunteers had been found
for churchyard maintenance. In 2005 a parish web site
was being set up by Bill Jenkin. Finally the chairman thanked the clerk
and all the members of the parish council for their assistance and
support over the year with special thanks to Bill and Anne Jenkin for
the rural cinema, neighbourhood watch and Village Live, John Jackson
for his continuing services as tree warden and all the members of the
good neighbour car scheme.
- Question time: Val Smith asked for the drain at the bottom of the Perch Pool
bank to be cleared out. The clerk to approach Bill Lanfear
or Neil Suckling to see if a digger could be provided. Bob
Chandler requested that something ought to be done with the two derelict cars at Chapel Cottages. The Clerk to ask CDC/Fosseway Housing to have them removed. The question of the RUPP at Campden Lane and Whitehall was discussed at length. It was proposed by Roger Gibson and seconded by Di Brown that “we
seek the feelings of this meeting as to whether the parish council
should spend money by consulting solicitors prior to doing anything
else”. The proposal was agreed by a majority
vote. Charles Arkell to be approached to find a suitable
solicitor. Rod Francis mentioned the problems now occurring
with “fly-posting”. It was agreed that if people
wanted to put notices round the villages the clerk or other key holder
of the notice boards should be approached. The key holders’
list on the noticeboard will be updated. The question of affordable housing
was raised. There was no news from CDC due to
holidays. The clerk had received two letters asking to be
put on the housing register, both from single people. The
clerk to pass on to Martin Hutchings. It was suggested that
if single dwellings were required would it be possible to build in
place of the existing garages next to Chapel Cottages?
CDC/Fosseway Housing possibly to be approached when more information
was available
. - The meeting then came to a close and was followed by a coffee break before the start of the parish council meeting.
