Village Archive Project
21/1/2012
|
Do you have old photographs,
newspaper cuttings or any other document or object relating to our
villages? If so please help us keep our past alive.
Bring anything which gives a little insight into what things were like
in earlier years to the village hall on one of the dates below. They
can be photographed or copied and eventually a scrapbook will be
compiled and kept in the hall. It could also be placed on the
village website.
Old photos (including slides or negatives), aerial shots of your house,
maybe an old show programme or newspaper clipping, please bring them
along.
Let’s not lose our past.
18th February and 17th March - 10am to 2pm
If you can’t make it on one of those dates but have something of interest contact Georgina on 820423

Brockhampton 1900 - 1950
21/1/2012
|
If you are new to the village, or
not so new but wish to find out more about what went on here in the
comparatively recent past, you must get hold of a copy of
‘Brockhampton 1900 - 1950’, a booklet compiled from the memories
recounted by sisters Val Smith and Gill Lanfear (née Combe) in their
walk round the village last year. It is a fascinating glimpse of
some of the characters and a way of life which existed here 50 years
and more ago.
You can get them from Georgina Oldham for £2 (820423).

Universal Pictures cancel 'Phantom of the Opera' show.
12/1/2012
|
At the last minute Universal
pictures have withdrawn their permission for any commercial showings of
the special performance of "the Phantom of the Opera at the Albert
Hall". This recording, made at the show's 25th anniversary event,
was to have been shown in February in Cotswold villages who are part of
Cotswold Rural Cinema scheme. Although the film had been booked
through Filmbank - who have non-theatrical release distribution rights
- Universal pictures have decided not to release the film
for commercial use so the villages are unable to show the film,
even though the DVD of the show is available for purchase.
Instead villages - many of whom have already advertised their
screenings for February - will have the option of showing 'One Day'
- cert 12a.

Parish Precept Frozen
2/12/2011
|
Sevenhampton Parish Council has
decided to leave the precept for the year 2012/13 at £5,000. This will
be the 7th successive year with no increase. Parish Chairman Bill
Jenkin said “A tax increase would be inappropriate in the current
economic climate, though this decision leaves us with few reserves.”

Bus Service Review - 804 Will Only Run to Andoversford
2/08/2011
|
As a result of the consultation process Gloucestershire County Council are proposing that:
"This
service will run between Temple Guiting and Andoversford to connect
with other services to Cheltenham. Journeys for workers and students
will be provided on Mondays to Fridays along with shoppers buses on
Tuesdays and Saturdays."
The changes will be implemented by 13th November 2011.
Sevenhampton Parish Council pointed out in the consultation process the
difficulties this would give for people working in Cheltenham and
beyond because of the uncertainty of being able to make a suitable
connection in Andoversford, the 801 often being full at that
point. There will no longer be a shoppers bus on Thursdays.

Thursday
Coffee Mornings
5/8/08
|
A Thursday
morning coffee session has started in the Reading Room of the village
hall. The idea is to give a chance for locals to get together
and have a natter. It will replace to some extent the loss of
the Post Office and Luncheon Club.
The session will run
every Thursday from 10.30 to 11.30. Nick Bailey, the local Village Agent
will be present. If you need a lift give Georgina Oldham
(820423) a ring.

Village
Agent Holds Local Surgeries
5/5/07
|
The Village Agents
project is a pilot scheme to provide older people in
Gloucestershire’s rural communities with easier access to
information and services. It is being run by Gloucestershire
County Council and Gloucestershire Rural Communities Council.
The
Agents
- Bridge the gap between the
local community and statutory and voluntary organisations able to offer
help or support.
- Provide high quality
information, promote access to a wide range of services, carry out a
series of practical checks and identify unmet needs within their
community.
- Have access to extensive relevant
training, resources and support from GRCC and the County
Council’s help desk.
- Be paid a small
‘retainer’ to work ten hours per week in the
community. They hold surgeries in the village hall or other suitable
places and carry out home visits where appropriate.
- Form
part of a network of local contact points within Gloucestershire.
- Are recruited locally, trained and supported to
provide
face-to face information and support, which enables individuals to make
informed choices about their future needs.
Come along to
talk to your local Village Agent
Nick Bailey
on
Thursday mornings
from 10 to Noon
in the Reading
Room, Rhodes Memorial Hall, Brockhampton.
